As I am sure you are aware March 31 is the deadline for applying and renewing the HELP Grant. I wanted to make sure that you know this means only the HELP Grant application must be completed by March 31. Students do not have to complete the FAFSA or turn in supporting documents until April 30. The HELP Grant application takes only about 5-10 minutes to complete!

If you can, please check your state aid data to ensure all of your possible HELP eligible students apply before the deadline. Remind your students they do not need a 20 ACT yet to apply for the HELP grant. They can still take the April, June, and July ACTs to get a 20.

Please reach out if you have any questions!

Hi Sydney,

Do you have a high school senior who is enrolling at The University of Southern Mississippi for the fall 2019 semester? We are offering a limited number of freshmen students the chance to join one of four communities in fall 2019. These communities – Academic Connections to Enhance Success (ACES) – give students the chance to:
  • Live with fellow freshmen with similar interests and backgrounds
  • Take a set of three classes together with these same students
  • Gain skills in time management, study skills, and other important areas
  • Benefit from additional mentoring from faculty and staff

For fall 2019, we are now taking applications for these four ACES living-learning communities:
  • Nursing/Health Sciences: Students who are interested in pursuing a nursing degree
  • Undeclared/Exploratory Studies: Students who have not declared a major
  • Biology: Students planning on majoring in a field in biology
  • Gen 1: Students who will be the first in their family to earn a four-year degree

Do you have any students in mind that you think would benefit from our program? Please encourage your students to visit our website to learn more and apply. Please note that they will also need to apply for housing on campus as part of this opportunity, as on-campus residency is required. The final deadline to submit an ACES application is April 1, 2019. If you or your students have any questions, please contact the Office of New Student and Retention Programs at 601.266.6405.

Sincerely,
Megan McCay, Ph.D.

Good afternoon,

I hope you are having a great Monday!

We have our Priority Registration coming up March 22nd.  This is an event reserved for students with 20+ on their ACT.  It is a reward and benefit for these students.  They will be the first students to register for classes and it will guarantee housing.  This event is a smaller crowd than our summer orientations so the students receive a ton of personal attention.  Please let me know if you have any questions or if I can help in anyway.

The students can sign up by clicking the following link: https://www.eastms.edu/priority/

Thank you,
