Dear Guidance Counselor - The Mississippi Concrete Industries Association (MCIA) Essay Scholarship Contest for 2016 is now available. The contest is open to students who are either in their junior or senior year in high school (ages 16-18) and who live in Mississippi. We encourage participation from throughout the state and remind all participants that submissions must be submitted or postmarked by November 15, 2016. As you prepare the students please remind them that this is an "essay" contest and reports are not what the judges are looking for. The definition of essay is a short literary composition expressing the author's viewpoint on a subject which can take many forms. Some ideas that might jump start their thinking about concrete are: how concrete effects the environment; the impact of using concrete to build homes, concrete benefits to society, concrete related jobs, and so forth.
