Fwd: It’s (Almost) FAFSA Time!

US Dept. of Education

Hi Sydney --

Exciting news! If you haven't already heard, the FAFSA is launching early this year – October 1!

So, if you or someone you know needs money for college, help spread the word by sharing this video:

What's the rush you ask?

Schools and states have a limited amount of aid, and a bunch of states have a FAFSA deadline of "as soon as possible after October 1," (meaning they actually could run out of financial aid) so it's good to be at the front of the line!

Don't leave money on the table. FAFSA is now easier to fill than ever before and it can mean an opportunity for more students to go to college.

Thank you for helping to get the word out.

From your friends at the U.S. Department of Education.

PS. Still unsure about how to fill out the FAFSA? Learn more about what you need to get started, and follow this step by step guide to get through it.

Fwd: MCIA ESSAY SCHOLARSHIP CONTEST

MCIA Essay Scholarship

Dear Guidance Counselor -

The Mississippi Concrete Industries Association (MCIA) Essay Scholarship Contest for 2016 is now available.  The contest is open to students who are either in their junior or senior year in high school (ages 16-18) and who live in Mississippi.  We encourage participation from throughout the state and remind all participants that submissions must be submitted or postmarked by November 15, 2016.

As you prepare the students please remind them that this is an "essay" contest and reports are not what the judges are looking for.  The definition of essay is a short literary composition expressing the author's viewpoint on a subject which can take many forms. Some ideas that might jump start their thinking about concrete are:  how concrete effects the environment; the impact of using concrete to build homes, concrete benefits to society, concrete related jobs, and so forth.

Should you have questions, please don't hesitate to contact the MCIA Administrative Office at 601-957-5274 or by email: info@mississippiconcrete.com

Download Entry Form HERE.

Fwd: 2016 Congressional App Challenge

---------- Forwarded message ----------
From: Matheny, Harrison <Harrison.Matheny@mail.house.gov>
Date: Tue, Sep 13, 2016 at 2:49 PM
Subject: 2016 Congressional App Challenge
To: "Matheny, Harrison" <Harrison.Matheny@mail.house.gov>

Good afternoon,

Congressman Harper's office would like to invite your students to participate in this year's Congressional App Challenge! The Congressional App Challenge (CAC) is a competition aimed at encouraging U.S. high school students to learn how to code by creating their own applications. By encouraging and recognizing our nation's young programming talent, Congress hopes to shine a light on the growing importance of these skills.

The 2016 Congressional App Challenge will take place now through November 2, 2016 and is open to all students in Mississippi's Third Congressional District. Challenge participants are invited, either as individuals or as teams of up to four, to create and submit their own software application ("app") for mobile, tablet or other computing devices on a platform of their choice. A panel of local computer science professionals and congressional representatives will judge the apps, and the winners in each district will have the honor of being recognized by Congressman Gregg Harper.

Attached, you'll find a 2-sided Congressional App Challenge flyer which you can print and distribute to the students in your school.

Please follow this link to Congressman Harper's website where you can get more information about the challenge or you may call our District Headquarters at (601) 932-2410.

Thanks for your time and interest in the 2016 Congressional App Challenge. We hope to hear from you and your students in the near future!

All the Best,

Harrison

HARRISON W. MATHENY

Special Assistant for Constituent Services
